What is a Jig ?
A jig in fishing is a type of fishing lure that consists of a weighted head, usually made of lead or another dense material, and a hook. The weight is designed to help the jig sink quickly to the desired depth in the water. The body of the jig can be bare or adorned with various materials like feathers, silicone, rubber, or soft plastic to mimic the appearance of prey (such as minnows, worms, or insects).
Jigs are typically used in a technique known as jigging, where the angler repeatedly lifts and drops the lure in the water to create an action that mimics the movements of injured or fleeing prey. This technique is effective for catching a variety of fish species, including bass, walleye, and panfish. Jigs come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, allowing anglers to adjust based on water conditions and the target species.
